About the Festival

The inaugural Southside Film Festival took place in Southside Glasgow over the weekend of 13-15 May, 2011. It was the first ever film festival south of the Clyde creating 'pop up' cinemas in various locations as  Southside Glasgow does not have a local cinema. 

So far Southside Film Festival has hosted screenings or events in the following places: Boat shed, beside the pond in Queens Park; The Bungo; Burrell Collection;  Castlemilk Community Centre; The Chalet;  The Glad Cafe; Govanhill Baths; Hidden Gardens; Hutchensons Grammar School; Kinning Park Complex;  Langside Library; Langside Scout Hall;  New Victoria Gardens allotments; Pearce Institute;  Pollok Ex-Servicemens Club; Pollok House; Pollokshaws Burgh Hall; Pollokshaws Library;;  Queens Park Camera Club; Tramway; Scotland St Museum; Shawlands Arcade  (Art Village); The Shed; Southside Studios.  We also had a Cinema Walk in 2013 of former Southside Cinemas.

Southside Film Festival screens a wide range of films -documentaries, animation, fiction in all its forms, artist's film and experimental film work as well as Scottish and Southside filmmakers. The festival also puts on filmmaking workshops and discussions and networking events for local filmmakers as well as our legendary film quiz. We also have monthly film screenings in The Glad Cafe.
